At UTEP, student life is all about diversity, which means excelling in the classroom, the recreational arena and the community.

And it starts with the freshmen year. The University offers an Entering Student Program that provides academic and social support to help beginning students transition to the campus experience. SmartStart and the College Assistance Migrant Program also give students a valuable head start.

The University also features the Honors and Student Success programs, initiatives that provide students with the opportunity to participate in advanced activities and classroom discussions, with perks such as earning honors degrees that enhance their academic résumés.

To complement such programs, more than 100 registered organizations offer students a rich variety of extracurricular choices, with subject areas ranging from animé to religion to computer gaming.

If students prefer branching out to broader interests, there are organizations tailored to political, social and cultural activities, including the Student Government Association.

And for armchair athletes who want to abandon the armchair, the Recreational Sports Department features clubs, fitness classes, challenge courses and intramurals.
